TABLE OF CONTENTS
Sarah Mensen is the Recital Coordinator
You must register a student by the deadline or there might not be time for them to perform. Registration is typically due 3 weeks before the recital. The sign-up form is emailed out about 1 month before the recital. On the registration form, you will need to fill out your name, the student's name, minutes of music, any conflicts to avoid and if your student is carpooling with another student. Please time all your students with a stopwatch the week before the registration deadline to give the most accurate timing. Do not add time for bowing, etc.
Typically recitals run on the half hour, every hour. Each recital is limited to 35 minutes of music. Typically recitals are 45 minutes or less. Do not give specific times to your students until you get a specific time from Sarah.
Programs are due about one weeks before the recital so we can generate programs. Please fill out the following form to send in your program information. Email and handwritten program notes will not be accepted. New this year: No programs will be printed. Instead, there will be a QR code for people to scan when they arrive to get the program on their smartphone. The program will also be projected for those that don't have a smartphone.
Ribbons and pins are given for participation. The office tracks participation and prints certificates. Certificates, pins, and ribbons will be given out at the recital after the student performs. Trophies are ordered by the office and in most cases are not ready in time for the recital. Trophies are placed in teacher's mailbox to give to the student in their lesson.
A recital is the ultimate demonstration of a student’s musical studies. It is important for students to learn the proper etiquette expected at these performances.
PERFORMERS ARE REQUIRED TO STAY FOR THE ENTIRE RECITAL
It is very disruptive to the audience and the other performers to leave before the end of the program. Our programs are less than one hour long and carefully timed to adhere to that plan. Please do not commit to participating in a recital unless you can stay to the end. If an emergency arises, please consult with your teacher.
NO FLASH PICTURES DURING THE RECITAL
Flashes can distract the performer.
SILENCE ALL CELL PHONES
RECITAL ATTIRE
Proper attire for the performance should be “dressy, not sporty”. Shoes tied, no hats, shorts, overalls, or worn/torn jeans. Exception to this attire is made for the Halloween Recital, when students are welcome to wear their Halloween Costume.
● Walk directly to your performing area and take time to prepare yourself to play.
● If you are playing the piano, adjust the bench location and height, if necessary.
● After performing, stand up, smile to the audience, and take a bow.
● Enjoy the opportunity to share your music with others.
